Happy New Year everyone! Welcome to 2013.
I have been a very busy girl, travelling up and down the country, visiting friends and family, all while editing the rest of Extraordinary Part 2.
I am very pleased to announce that the complete Extraordinary story is now live on site. I am preparing the e-books for release via Amazon and Smashwords.
I am also considering posting a a discount code for my readers here so that you can purchase the two e-books together for a very good price.
Also, I am very close to having Extraordinary Part 1 available in paperback via Amazon CreateSpace. I will post the link to that once it is ready.
In the meantime, please leave feedback on the site here, letting me know what you think of the story so far. Feedback can be left through my Comments page, or through the comments boxes on each of the Table of Contents pages. You can even leave comments here on the blog!
If you don't want to leave any comments, then please complete the survey set out on the Comments page. However, I am looking for feedback to post up on site! Good, bad or otherwise :)
Also, you can follow me on Twitter and Pinterest (where I have posted some images relating to stuff set out in the story) or join my circle of friends on Google+, keep an eye on me on LinkedIn, or Like my page on Facebook. Links to all of those are up on the top of each page. Just click the appropriate icon, then it will send you to my pages, where you can Like/Follow/Friend to your heart's content.
I'd also love some questions for my Q & A Spot here on my blog, so if you have any questions, whether about my books, my characters, or me personally, then please ask!
I really look forward to hearing from you.
Despite the end of the Mayan calendar - at least this era of it, anyway - I am pleased to announce that yes, I survived the "end of the world" 2012.
I am sitting here, currently listening to a favourite song of mine and looking forward to Christmas. I have been busy over the last few days, posting chapters for Extraordinary Part 2.
As Cassie and the Graysons head to Jennabeth's house in the North Cascades, to prepare for the coming battle, Cassie is facing her visions with determination... if only Alex could be convinced to let her fight! She knows that without her input, there is no positive outcome from this battle. Alex, however is determined to protect Cassie - even if it means he cannot fight.
But we all know Cassie... quietly determined, even if easily frightened. But her love for the Graysons outweighs any fear she may feel. So if she can get in on the battle, she will, without thinking about the consequences she might face.
For those who are only just joining us, I have now added a link at the top of the Table of Contents for Part 2, sending you back to Part 1, so you can read from the beginning.
For those who have been following through the story from the very beginning... thank you! I appreciate your continuing support. I will be posting chapters over the holiday period, hopefully finishing Part 2 and uploading it as an e-book (time permitting, of course!)
Now we are heading well into the Christmas Season, I just want to take a moment to wish my readers a very Merry Christmas and a hopeful and joyful New Year.
Have a wonderful holiday period, be good, and stay safe!
Over the last week-and-a-half I have posted, even by my standard, an unprecedented number of chapters. Over the weekend I posted three chapters in two days and in the days prior to that I was posting a chapter a day.
I guess that my enthusiasm does have a cause... I am very excited about where Part 2 is going.
If you've been following as I've been posting, you will have seen Cassie is going through some major issues, which for the average teenager may not seem as huge as they do to her. However, Cassie is naturally easily frightened and also rather cautious. She worries about those around her and is determined to protect them, no matter the cost. If that means hiding from her mother the true nature of the Grayson Family, the true nature of Cassie's destiny and the secrets that she carries, then Cassie will do that.
But what will Cassie do when she is faced with a member of the Craevyrn army - who also turns out to be her terrifying enemy from her childhood?
Yes, we get to meet Mallory... and discover a side to Cassie that is stronger than Cassie has ever given herself credit for. In Chapter 20 - Cassie's Fight, the tables definitely start to turn. Cassie discovers that she is capable of being the defender, the guardian and the fighter that Alex has been training her to be. But at what cost? Can Cassie live with the decisions that fate forces her to make? Can she deal with the remorse that is soon to follow on the heels of her actions?
In Chapter 21 - The Things We Do For Love, Cassie has to face Alex's anger at her decisions. However, love wins over anger and Alex has to rapidly help her face a new issue - the craving for blood that comes with one of the secrets that she carries. Just how will Alex and Cassie deal with this?
Stay tuned (is that the correct phrase to use?). Cassie has a long way to go and lots of surprises to discover yet...
Oh, and if you're still reading, congratulations. You're now halfway through this book and three-quarters of the way through Cassie's Extraordinary story. It is only going to get more intense from here on in!
In the meantime, please feel free to Like my Facebook Page, or follow my Twitter feed (links at the very very top of the page!) Also, feedback is appreciated, good or bad, so feel free to leave some, either here, or on one of the forms found around the site, or through FB or Twitter! I hope to hear from you!
Also, don't forget that Extraordinary Part 1 is now available as an ebook. To buy a copy, head to "The Novels" page and the links to the sites are listed just below the synopsis for Part 1.
I am super-stoked to announce that Extraordinary Part 1 is now live on Amazon. I have posted links to it on the Novels Page and also throughout the book here on the site (at the bottom of every 5th chapter or so).
The link will direct you to Amazon.com's listing. However, if you are outside of their region (ie UK, Japan, Italy, France etc, then Amazon has different pages for the other regions, and the book code is the same for each page: B00A4SGRGY
However, if you go to Amazon.com, via the link it will give you the option near the top of the page to be redirected to the correct region for your country and will redirect you to where my book is on those pages. Nice and Easy!
In other news, I have been frantically working away at Extraordinary Part 2.
I learned a lot about all the little things I wanted via editing Part 1, so I'm now working on getting all the edits rolled into one, fixing everything on my way through instead of going through multiple times and fixing one thing at a time (i.e removing "stray" commas, getting rid of contractions in narrations, ensuring that my punctuation and plurals are set up correctly - to name but a few!) I think this one will take less time than the last to get right, but now I know what I'm looking for it does help!
However, I have updated the online chapters 1 - 9 of Part 2, and once I've updated Chapters 10, 11 and 12, I'll be putting up 13 and carrying on from there.
My aim (though this might be a bit too out-there) is to try to have Part 2 released for Christmas/New Years. Unless the world ends first.
So thank you for your patience, all of those who are hanging out for the next chapter. I promise you it is coming, and there are many more books in the series to come too. Lots of stories in my head too, so I'm sure I'll be keeping this site up and running for a good long time yet, all going well.
Wow, have I been busy!
I have just now posted the next chapter in Extraordinary Part 2: Chapter 11 - The Other Side of Joy - Is Fear.
Waking in Alex's arms should spell the start of a wonderful day for Cassie. Well, this is Cassie we are talking about. Trouble seems to follow her, and this day is no different. What starts as a day of amazing dreams, and pure happiness, will soon lead to a frightening encounter, and some terrifying events.
I've been a bit slack in posting the newer chapters, because I have been so busy completing my final edits and reposts of Extraordinary Part 1. I'm almost halfway through. I am surprised it's taking so long, but I guess now I'm down the itty-bitty-gritty details, that seem to take forever to complete. I'm happy with the storyline, happy with the conversations lining up with the same conversations in The Secrets We Keep (which I am editing at the same time, so that when it releases it doesn't take nearly as long!), and I'm happy with the small details in the book.
When I say the itty-bitty-gritty details, I'm talking about sentence structure, and grammar, and placement of full-stops and commas and semi-colons. I'm also formatting (which in itself is not too difficult) but it means keeping an eye on the number of spaces, ensuring there are no funny characters or funny formatting styles making an appearance in my ebook (Smashwords) manuscript. Yes, it's really really boring, but someone's got to do it!
On the other hand, I've posted 3 re-edited chapters, plus a new one for Part 2, since Friday night. I'm pretty happy with that. If I keep this up, I'll have a ready-to-go manuscript by mid October. I'm aiming for the end of October, so that means there are allowances for any issues.
Now, its time for me to post yet another request for feedback. If anyone has completed reading Part 1 (and yes I know its not the complete story, as Part 2 will finalise the story) I would really really appreciate getting some feedback, even if its to point out a misplaced comma!! On the other hand, if you are not into giving detailed feedback, then feel free to use the comments form on the Comments Page, or the survey form/feedback form on the Extraordinary Part 1 Table of Contents Page. There are only a couple of quick questions on the survey and I'd love to hear back from my readers. And, as always, if you leave me a feedback comment, I will post it on the Comments page (unless you request otherwise, of course!)
Otherwise, those who are interested can "Follow" me on Twitter, or "Like" my Facebook Page... links to those pages are at the very top of every page on this site.
Hope to hear from you soon!
Everyone who works in a creative-type job, or has a creative-type hobby, needs it, or has it.
For me, it usually comes in flashes. An image of a place, a snippet of a conversation (whether real or imagined), or a verse in a song will suddenly make the wheels in my brain turn. I'll jump onto my laptop, and start to write.
And boy, sometimes I can WRITE!! I'll start tapping away, and next thing I know, its six hours later, my whole day is gone, but I've written several thousand words. Then I sleep on it.
Sometimes, its good. Other times, I cringe, thinking, "Why on earth did I write THAT?"
The delete key is a good friend of mine.
I used to wonder how writers came up with storylines, how they created their characters, how they visualised a place, or time, and then put it down in such a way that I could "see" it when I read. Sometimes even reading my stories, when a character has found themselves in a certain situation, I'll be reading, and laughing, and wondering how on earth I came up with it. I mean, its often not something I could easily imagine, even if I tried. In those circumstances I only have one word to describe what happened to cause it:
With this in mind, I've created another page here on the site, called "Evie's Inspiration". I've put a few bits and pieces on it, lyrics from songs that inspire me and quotes that I've heard that get me thinking, and have moved me.
Now, I want to know what inspires others. Let me know!
In other news, the writer's block was short lived (YAY!) and I've posted Chapter 4 - Alone over the weekend, and am about to post Chapter 5 - Reawakening.
If you've finished reading Extraordinary Part 1, please let me know what you think. I would love to receive some feedback about it.
Also, feel free to follow me on Twitter, or Like my Facebook page - links are at the top of every page!
I am very pleased to let you all know that I've now posted Chapter 2 - Good vs Evil.
In this chapter, the story continues from where it left off at the end of Extraordinary Part 1. Cassie is about to meet the Craevyrn, the feared enemy of the Graysons, and the evil creatures she has been dreaming about for weeks. What will they demand of her friends? What do they know about Cassie and Astra? And what will Alex do to protect the one he loves?
Extraordinary Part 2 is, in my opinion (and really what do I know? I just wrote it!) the darker half of the Extraordinary story. Cassie has a lot of choices to make, and a lot of growing up to do.
I was discussing her story with my husband in the car on the way home from work today. I made the comment: "Cassie is brave. Only she doesn't really know it. She has to go through a lot to discover just what she is capable of, and just how brave she really is."
At this point in the story, Cassie is afraid. But, she is about to be presented with a number of opportunities to develop from a frightened "child-like" character, into a stronger, braver, more powerful "Star Kin-like" character.
This story will take her down some darker, more serious roads, with a number of decisions to make. And not only her: Alex, though he has been around a lot longer than she has, is rather naive, especially when it comes to Cassie, and love. He has a lot of learning to do in this part of the story as well. Not every decision is easy, or black-and-white. Not every decision leads them where they expect to end up.
I'm excited that you've decided to join me on their journey. I hope that it is as interesting to read as it was for me to write.
Over the weekend I was busy working on a variety of tasks, the biggest one being updating and restructuring this site.
One of the big changes is that I've set up a page called "The Novels" which you'll now find in the menu bar across the top part of the page. That page will send you to where you can find details about the novels. It links you to the Table of Contents for each novel that is available to read (I'm currently posting the second novel) and gives a sneak-peek at up-coming books in the Star Kin Chronicles series. Go and check it out!
I've also updated the page headers to reflect the cover designs for the books. Extraordinary Part 1 is now posted in full, and you'll notice that it's headers have changed. Extraordinary Part 2 is now currently being posted.
I have put up the first two chapters (technically Prologue and Chapter 1). The Prologue is, well, a prologue. Chapter 1 is a bit of a rundown of what has already occurred in the Extraordinary story, bringing you up to date before you dive into Part 2 of the story. It's also helpful for those readers who pick this book up first - I've written this one in such a way that you can read it independently, however to get the full grasp of the story, I'd recommend reading them in order. The end of each book leads into the next - except in the case of The Secrets We Keep and Extraordinary - they are designed as a "side-by-side" read, with both of them leading into A Guardian's Love - which is Amaia's story.
And finally, I had noticed that some of the layout of Extraordinary Part 1 had gone a bit "wonky". Why, I'm not sure, but I've gone in and realigned the paragraphs, so hopefully it makes it easier to read.
I'd love to hear what you think about the changes I've made. In the meantime, I'm off to work on Chapter 2 of Part 2, where the story really takes off!
Yesterday, I posted Chapter 40 - Frightening Times. In this Chapter, Jennabeth arrives with the news that Cassie and the Graysons have been dreading - the Craevyrn are on their way.
But don't worry, Chapter 41 - Last Minute Preparations (and the last chapter in this part of the Extrarordinary story) which I have just now posted, reveals some new vampire and Star Kin friends, who have rallied around the Graysons to help.
And, my reader friends, don't panic... Part 2
is definitely on the way. I have written it, but I just need to do as I have done with this part of the book, and run in through a hard edit, then do a chapter by chapter fine edit to iron out any wrinkles, then I'll be posting it up here as well.
In the meantime, I have also been working on some ideas for book covers for the Part 1 story. I've come up with a couple of concepts, which I will post up here over the next few days. In the meantime, they are up on my personal Facebook site, which you can find here: Evie's Facebook.
Now I have a favour to ask: I know I post requests for feedback ALL the time, and I"m sure you've heard enough of that, but I am going to request it once more, from those who have completed the first part of the story. Please leave feedback in any of the following places:
1. On the Table of Contents page - you have the choice between answering my poll question or leaving a slightly more detailed response in the Comment field there; or
2. On the Comments/Feedback page - again a Comment field, however if you leave feedback, I will post it up on the page for you to see. With the Comment fields,, it does request an email address - if you leave one, I will send you a quick message back.
3. On this blog you can click the "comment" option and leave a quick note there.
If you leave any questions, they may end up in my "Q&A Spot" here on my blog with my (probably) longwinded answer. So feel free to ask anything you like.
If you do not wish your comment to be made "public" on my site, just say so in the comment field, when you leave the feedback, and I won't post it up.
I would love to hear from you!
Chapter 39 - The Stuff Nightmares are Made Of is now up.
In this chapter, Cassie and Alex are trying to deal with Cassie's now very vivid and frightening dreams. She's heard all about the Craevyrn, and now she is dreaming of them, much to Alex's dismay. But is it set in stone? Or can Alex use her dreams to protect her, and his family?
The posting of this chapter means that we only have 2 chapters left in this book. It might be becoming obvious that Cassie and Alex aren't going to face the enemy in this part of the book. That is, unfortunately, what will happen. When I made the decision to split the book originally, it happened after they met the Craevyrn. However, due to the darker themes, decisions and concepts that are set out in the second Part, when I reconsidered placing the division in this story, I decided to place the Craevyrn's meeting at the start of the second Part.
Hopefully you're enjoying the story so far. Let me know what you think! I'd love to hear from more of my readers.
